A rule of thumb for EQ boosts when balancing

Be wary of boosting more than 6db of gain on an EQ band. Using too much EQ is like forcing a square peg through a round hole. Instead, use less EQ and simply turn the volume up.^[ Mixing Secrets for the Small Studio pg. 211]
